info box image sizes – i would like to change the size of my images display size

Hi,
I’m getting confused by all the previous threads on this topic.
I’m trying to use images in my info boxes. They get cropped to the default size and they look fine. However, the default size that my images are being cropped to are bigger vertically than what is on the BBQ demo pages. I would also like my info box images around the size of the images on the BBQ demo pages. I’ve tried uploading and using a range of different pixel heights of images. I have tried unticking and ticking the WP Resize Cropping tick box in the Theme Options Images section and tried a range of sizes of images.
My site is on version 1.1.9 and would prefer not to change it if possible as I have more fun things to do with my time.
Regards,
Alex.
Juanfra Aldasoro June 20, 2015 at 4:49 pmHi Alex,
Thanks for writing. I hope you are doing well. The Info Boxes image size has to be larger than 480×240 in order to being cropped. You also need to tick the “Resize cropping” tick box in the Images section of the “Theme Options” panel.

My question was really about displaying an image in an info box less than the default size. I can’t seem to get it done. Even changing the “Resize Cropping” setting and having tiny images uploaded.

Alex.

Thanks for the follow up.
Are you setting the image you want for the infobox as the featured image?

Ok, I have solved my issue. I don’t fully understand but I know how I can fiddle around to get the effect I’m after.
So, my issue was that my featured images for my infobox looked perfectly fine except that they were larger vertically than those images that are on your demo BBQ theme pages in the infoboxes. I didn’t know how to adjust the height, now I kind of do.
The WP Resize Cropping tickbox is ticked for me to get the result I want.
I tried uploading images that were 100px in height and 50px in height. Didn’t work. The height was stretched up to the default.
To get the effect of images showing up with a vertical height less than the default seems in some weird way to do with the relationship of height to width of the image uploaded. To test this I uploaded an image with with width of 3000px and height of 1776px and the image displayed at a height less than that of the default. If the height is too close to the width, you get a default height. Weird.
Anyway, the images that I use now are 300px width and about 190px height to give the effect I’m after.
Regards,
Alex.

Thanks for the follow up. I’m happy you’ve solved the problem.
Yes, WordPress doesn’t give developers the option to stretch up image sizes. So, if you upload pictures that are smaller in size than what the sizes defined on the theme, then those won’t be resized properly.
Best,
Juan.
