Failure to install XML file to WordPress

Request ID #30475 In Progress
  • I’ve searched through the forums and read the article on installing the demo content for Paeon but still haven’t found the solution.

I’ve tried uploading the XML file from the Paeon package to WordPress imported but it says that there’s been an error. I get the following message: “Sorry, there has been an error.
This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number.”

I’ve tried both the wpml-config.xml file and the paeon.wordpress.demo.xml that was listed in the article page. Both give me the error and I have been unable to install the demo for 2 days now.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing. I’ve already responded on ThemeForest but we can continue here.

To import the demo contents you’ll need to install and activate the theme first. Then go to Tools → Import → WordPress and upload the XML file you can get on this article: https://nicethemeswp.com/article/importing-demo-content/

Would you please try again with that file, with the theme installed and while connected to the internet?

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

    Best,
    Juan.

    Hi Juan,

I downloaded the file from the article and tried to open the file. I cannot open the file. I have OpenOffice installed and it looks like that might be the problem. When I try to open the xml file after opening the zip, I get a popup message that reads: “General Error. General input/output error.”

How can I make this file compatible so that I can open it and have it be accepted to WordPress? Thank you.

I opened the xml file using txt and saved it as a duplicate. I was able to go through with uploading that file but my website does not show the demo content.

Another thing, after watching video tutorials on how to install a purchased theme, it looked like others had to register the theme with WP and submit a purchase code. Do I need to do that, and if so, how? I could not find the answers to this as well.

    Hi,

Thanks for the follow up. Please have in mind that the file that you get from the article is a .zip file, you have to unzip it and once you do that you have the XML.

The XML compressed in the ZIP is a valid XML file and you shouldn’t have any problem when importing it.

I have visited your site with the credentials you’ve shared with us and was able to import the XML without any problem.

Regarding registering your purchase, you can register your ThemeForest Purchase on this page and you’ll be getting a valid license. We’re currently implementing a solution to use that license in order to get automatic updates.

    Best,
    Juan.

Juan, I still cannot open the file. Previously, I did not upload the zip file, I tried to open the file that was labeled paeon.wordpress.demo.xml after I unzipped it. When I try to open the file from my desktop, I cannot. It will not upload. I’ve tried multiple times using different methods. I’m really at a loss here.

Before purchasing this theme, I read the good reviews and the ratings but I’m disappointed at how long it’s taking to do a simple step from this theme. All online tutorials I’ve watched showed how easy it was to upload the demo content, I cannot understand why it will not upload.

Again, even when I try to just open the unzipped demo zml file (not even to upload unto WP), I cannot. I get an popup blocking the opening with the message “General error”

    Hello,

Thank you for the follow up.

If you go to your site and have a look, you’ll find that I could do it. The contents are already there, please go and have a look to your site. I took the time and imported the demo contents on your site to see if there were any errors and everything went well. I did it by downloading the file from the link I’ve sent you and following the steps described on the article I’ve also linked.

The file doesn’t have any problem at all, and the whole process is all explained to the detail.

Where is that you are getting the “General Error”? Please have in mind that when you go to the Tools → Import → WordPress section, you need to run the WordPress Importer.

    Best,
    Juan.

Juan, thank you for fixing the issue. Could it be that I had not registered the license for the theme? I still do not know what the issue was, but I really appreciate your help.

I got the “General Error” when I tried to open the xml file from the desktop after downloading the file.

Before I went to my website, I again tried to upload the xml file after registering for the license. I was able to this time. However, now I am getting double the links. For instance, I have 2 of Home, Services, Doctors, Templates, Blog, & Contact Us. I am also not seeing some sections of the demo content.

    Hi,

Thank you for the follow up. No, the theme license works at other level and it is requested for us in order to provide support and updates. It doesn’t limit the theme nor WordPress to import contents.

The XML file is a valid XML file and it was imported successfully. It is quite likely that if you had trouble opening the file in your computer, the problem is with your set up. But that’s not theme related.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

    Best,
    Juan.

Now the problem I’m left with is that I have double the links. As mentioned in my previous reply, I am seeing two sets of Home, Services, Doctors, Templates, Blog, & Contact Us links. Some demo content sections are missing as well.

Juan, I believe I fixed the double menu problem by just deleting the duplicate from the Appearances –> Menu. The remaining issues I seem to be having:

1.) The menu links bar from my website is higher than the demo content’s website. How can I lower the links?

2.) I am missing about half the demo content in the home page.

3.) In the home page, can I make “Meet our professionals” bigger? There is only one doctor so it looks very plain and empty. Otherwise, I would like to just delete this section.

4.) From the home page, when I click on “read more testimonials”, it displays 404 not found page.

5.) How to move the services order so that I can choose what appears on the front page? There is a priority order in the services section, but it looks like the first couple of services do not appear in the front page, but is instead, random.

6.) On the “doctor” menu link, how can I make it so that when I click on the link on menu bar, it goes directly to the page instead of the small circle photo with a “read more” link?

    Thank you.

    Hi,

Please have in mind that if you import the demo more than once in one site the contents will still be imported and they will look as duplicated. They will be imported every time you import the demo XML. So, all you need to do, if you have duplicated items, is erasing them.

    With regards to your questions:

    1) I don’t understand what do you mean when you say that the menu links in your navigation bar are higher. Do you mean that they are closer to the top or the other way round? By default the space is the same so they will look at the same height, unless you change the typography size for that section.

    2) The content beside the Testimonials is populated with the home sidebar widgets, you will need to configure the sidebar widgets for the home sidebar in order to have them in place. You can learn how to use Widgets by reading the article we have created: https://nicethemeswp.com/article/using-wordpress-widgets/

    3) Unfortunately you can’t change the size of that section. You can disable that section from the theme options panel. Please go to “NiceThemes > Theme Options > Home Options” and see the “Enable Staff” input.

    4) You need to add a link to your testimonials page from “NiceThemes > Theme Options > Home Options”. Please see the “Testimonials Button URL” option.

    5) You can set the order from “NiceThemes > Theme Options > Home Options”, please see the “Services Order” option.

    6) Unfortunately the link of each staff member cannot be changed, it points to the doctor.

    Best,
    Juan.

I’m having a lot of issues here. The page loads very slowly and the text in the header slides either fades or disappears if its been left inactive for about 30 seconds or so. It also fades/disappears once I scroll down and scroll up again after a minute or two.

If I click on the pages and go back, the text may come back but it continues to fade/disappear randomly.
