Documentation Isn't Really Helping

  • Good afternoon!

I am making a site at the directory of jeffpoblano.m/overcomingthechallenge.

I’ve several issues with the theme, so I tried to install the dummy data that I found in another post. Unfortunately, it didn’t really solve any issues. It didn’t illustrate how to do much on the site.

The first and foremost issue I am having is that the home page just doesn’t work. I don’t see in the documentation how exactly to set up the home page to set the slider image like on the Themeforest demo. Nor do I need how actual content (besides the box) is made.

How do I even start this out? The documentation speaks of setting the permalinks, home page, etc, but for actual content management, it’s thin in information. How do I set the slides for the rotating banner on the home page? I can’t even get text to show up on the home page when the template is home.

    Am I missing something here?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hello Jeff,

    Thanks for writing.

The dummy data will only import the contents. After you import the contents there are several things you need to do, that are related to configuration and not contents.

If you go to the theme documentation page you’ll find that there’s an entire section on how to use page templates, and once you learn that, how to set the front page using the home page template > http://nicethemeswp.com/support/theme-docs/paeon/#page-templates

With regards to managing the contents, it is fairly simple. Every piece of content works exactly the same as the pages or posts do. For example, the slider is composed by the slides that you create (or import with the demo data). To create a new slide, you need to look over the “Slides” Menu, and click on “Add New”. Once you are in the form, you’ll need to set a title, a description, a link, the featured image, and the order in which you want to display that slide among the others.

The same applies for infoboxes, services, and staff. They all have their own forms, and they all work the same way as posts and pages.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

    Best,
    Juan.

Thank you for the quick response.

I know how the page templates work – so maybe this problem is more than I can see.

The demo content is all there – as well as the pictures for it. So why aren’t they showing up (even the slides are there in the admin panel)? I went to see if it was the cache problem as you’ve explained in the documentation but there’s no folder named cache in the wp-content/paeon directory.

What could be the issue? The home page still looks blank, but there’s content on it. You just can’t see it.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hello Jeff,

    No problem.

Yes, the content is there. What you need to do is follow the steps on how to set up the home page: http://nicethemeswp.com/support/theme-docs/paeon/#setting-up-your-home-page (setting up the home page has nothing to do with the theme, it is just a WordPress feature).

The home page template, works when used as the Home Page of the site, else it looks blank.

After setting the home page, please ensure to:

    1) select the location of the navigation menus: http://nicethemeswp.com/article/setting-navigation-menu/
    2) Set the widgets: http://nicethemeswp.com/article/using-wordpress-widgets/

    Best,
    Juan.

I think we might not be understanding each other.

WordPress’s home page is set to Home, via static page as Home page in the reading section of the settings.

The Home page is set to the template of home and yet nothing shows up, no matter what content I put on the page.

The slides are there and in order, via your demo XML, and yet there are no slides at all.

The navigation is set. I do not know what you mean by set the widgets. Do the widgets somehow control the slider/main page content? Under home, it’s empty. But if I put any widgets into Home, they still don’t show up.

    🙁

    Hello Jeff,

I went through your site and saved the options to set up the home page section and everything works as it should. Would you please take a look at it?

    Best,
    Juan.

Everything looks like it’s working just fine. Thank you!

However, I do not like to indulge in ignorance so would you mind telling me which options made everything work? It’s hard to believe that one option made all of it work, right?

    What did I miss?

    Thanks again!

    Hi,

No problem I’ve picked the options in the “Home Options” section of the Theme Options panel.

After that, I selected the locations for the menus.

    Best,
    Juan
