Hello. I am having trouble creating 2 separate food menu’s using the Menu categories and templates. I would like one menu that is for catering and includes all food items the client offers. Then I would like to create another menu that has what they offer in their concession trailer. It is just a subset of what is on the catering menu. The issue I’m having is how I can get just some of the Food Menu items to show up on the concession menu when using either of the menu page templates. It automatically shows every item listed under Food Items. I tried creating a new category for concessions but it then adds that category to my catering menu which is using the list menu template. How can I just have certain items show up on one of the menu pages? My url is http://www.bigguysq.com. Thanks for your help.
Juanfra Aldasoro March 11, 2014 at 7:19 pmHey there,
The best solution for this would be creating two parent Food categories. That would be, for example: “Client Offer″ & “Concession Trailer″. Then you add all the food items assigning them to the specific food category you wish.
Since “Client Offer″ & “Concession Trailer″ are food categories you don’t need to create any pages for them, they’re created automatically by the theme.
If you visit your page http://yourwpsite.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=menu-category&post_type=menu – you’ll see all the menu categories that you’d created. You’ll able to create more, edit or delete. When you hover any category you’ll see that there’s a link that says “View”. If you click that link, you’ll be sent to the Food menu category template.
Over the theme options, you can select to display your food menu category template with a grid or list style.
Then, when creating your WordPress navigation menu (check Appearance > Menus ), you can add any “Menu Category” (in your case:“Client Offer″ & “Concession Trailer″). If you don’t get to see the “Menu Category” over there, please see if you can enable it from the “Screen Options” at the right top part of the screen.
Best,
Juan.Jaminj44 March 11, 2014 at 11:52 pmThank you. This got it mostly how I would like. One issue I have is that I like having the Catering Menu separated with categories (i.e. Proteins, Starches & Breads, etc…). So I would like to have that one using the Menu List template. The problem is that it then automatically adds my Concession Menu category to that page. Is there a way to just have the Concession Menu category not automatically be added to the Catering Menu page?
Jaminj44 March 12, 2014 at 12:17 amI think I figured it out. Need to create child category items. Only thing left I’m trying to figure out is how to order the items that show up in the category. Desserts keeps going to the top for some reason and I want it at the bottom. Thanks again. Great theme by the way.
Juanfra Aldasoro March 12, 2014 at 12:41 amHi There,
Thanks for the follow up, and thanks for your kind words.
Unfortunately the order can’t be changed through the options. You’ll need to dig into the code of the taxonomy-menu-category.php template.
Check the orderby parameter on line #42 and #113
Best,
Juan.Jaminj44 March 12, 2014 at 1:03 pmI did find those. What are my options? I tried removing order and order by entirely but they are still alphabetical. I found this site through your support forum and they are doing what I want to do: http://thepeppercanister.com/menu-category/wine/#
Jaminj44 March 12, 2014 at 1:50 pmI found a plug-in that allows you to drag and drop taxonomy order. It’s called: Category Order and Taxonomy Terms Order. Worked perfect. Thanks for your help.
Juanfra Aldasoro March 12, 2014 at 2:04 pmThat’s great 🙂
I thought you wanted to give order to the items inside each category.
Have a nice day,
Juan.
