Bolded text not showing up [all pages]

  • Bolded text (via < / strong>) isn’t showing up well on our WordPress across all pages/areas. This is most apparent in this FAQ article: http://helpshift-resources.com/support/article/what-is-advanced-search-and-how-do-i-use-it/

The first two words of the body, “Advanced Search” are bolded via HTML. Two paragraphs down in the bullet point list, the terms Fields, Values, Operators, and Boolean Operators are also bolded, but you can’t really see it at all.

This was already an issue before we changed the font to a custom one (using the Use Any Font plugin) so I know the font isn’t the issue. You can see this for yourself by unchecking the custom font via Chrome dev tools.

Any advice on how to get the bold text to show up better would be helpful. This is critical for our content presentation!

    Hi,

Thank you for writing. I hope you are doing well.

I see what you mention, the problem is with Chrome specifically from what I can see. If you check the site in Firefox or Safari you will see that the font is rendering perfectly well.

What’s the source of the font? Are you using any online service?

    Best,
    Juan.

Thanks for the response Jaun, and my apologies for the delay. I was writing an update for you that would answer this question when I ended up resolving this issue on my own!

To share my solution for anyone who comes across this thread later: I am using the Use Any Font widget to instantiate custom fonts in my theme. Link to that widget is here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/use-any-font/

I am using an array of custom fonts, including the following:

    robotocondensed-regular
    robotocondensed-bold
    robotocondensed-italic
    robotocondensed-bolditalic
    robotocondensed-light

    and so on.

I’m using robotocondensed-regular for my body text, and after reviewing the functionality of the Use Any Font widget, I realized I could tag the robotocondensed-bold font to all < b > and < strong > items. I did this and it fixed my issue!

Thanks for your response, and I hope that this may resolve any issues someone has down the road!

    Hi Renée,

Thank you for sharing! I hope this can be helpful for others as well.

    Have a nice day,
    Juan.
